WAGES+ Family Child Care Supporting Quality and Professionalism in Family Child Care
The WAGES+ FCC program helps licensed family child care providers operating in the City/County of San Francisco cover the cost of providing quality care, and augments the wages of their eligible staff to a more livable wage, encouraging retention and career advancement. The following are the program’s primary goals:
* Support licensed FCC programs serving low-income children by providing financial support to eligible licensed FCC providers.
* Provide a monthly stipend to FCC providers, which will partially cover the cost of care for low-income families, resulting in some increase of income for FCC providers.
* Raise the wages of FCC teaching assistants and eligible non-teaching staff by augmenting their hourly wage to a more livable wage, encouraging retention and career advancement.
* Support FCC providers in their efforts to develop appropriate business practices by providing financial support for payroll taxes, payroll service and worker’s compensation insurance.
* Raise the quality of care for low-income, and all children who receive care in the participating licensed FCC homes.
* Increase quality in FCC homes by conducting an external assessment using the Family Day Care Rating Scale (FDCRS), including the development of a Quality Improvement Plan with an assessor from the Gateway to Quality Child Care (GTQCC) assessment team at San Francisco State University and linking FCC owners to additional resources.
* Reduce turnover among FCC owners and teaching staff, thereby improving quality for children and their families.
